Stanford University graduate Kelly Shanahan has served law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP, as Corporate Case Assistant since July 2011. In this position, she builds on experience gained as an Intern with the San Francisco District Attorney’s general litigation and homicide departments. Kelly Shanahan also acts as Chief Financial Officer of Delivering Hope, Inc., a Los Angeles nonprofit that she co-founded in 2009.

Kelly Shanahan attended Phillips Exeter Academy, a coeducational school located in New Hampshire. While attending the academy, Ms. Shanahan participated in a summer-long study-abroad program at Cambridge University in Great Britain, where she undertook courses in creative writing and public speaking. After graduating from Phillips Exeter in 2006, Ms. Shanahan enrolled in biotechnology and bioethics studies at Stanford University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology. She continued her education at Stanford with a Master of Arts in Sociology, which she received in 2011. While attending undergraduate school, she participated in the philanthropic efforts of Stanford University organization Kids with Dreams and women’s fraternity Kappa Alpha Theta.

In addition to her experience working with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Delivering Hope, Kelly Shanahan possesses experience as a researcher. During the summer of 2005, she served as a Research Intern at Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University, where she assisted in a study that analyzed the effect of global warming on marine snail populations. Ms. Shanahan also worked with the Stanford Center for Ethics in Society as a Research Coordinator for nearly two years. In this role, she conducted a study on the influence of the pharmaceutical industry on health care in economically developing nations.

Ms. Shanahan’s research at the Stanford Center for Ethics in Society indirectly ties in with her work at Delivering Hope, which advocates for the rights of women in underdeveloped countries to adequate prenatal and postpartum care. Ms. Shanahan and her colleagues at Delivering Hope have made it their mission to reduce maternal mortality through the collection and distribution of much-needed medical supplies to maternity wards in third-world countries.
